Portrait
(J.M.H)
Her spirit is as delicate and bright
as spring sunlight
poised golden in a shady place;
lily-of-the-valley its scent,
a hidden sweetness, bent
gently, with faint weariness, full grace
Its action is as keen,
cool, clean
as fine steel the floating feather dividing,
its rest as withdrawn
as a star at dawn:
a diamond into deep blue water sliding.
